Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Tacho manufacturers and consultants say they have been receiving a higher than average number of calls from concerned hauliers and drivers.

Alan Brys of tacho consultants Farnsworth Consultancy says it has been contacted by drivers who use digital and analogue units in their vehicles, and have their own specific problems that need resolving.

He also knows of cases where drivers have been issued with new cards due to start in a few weeks’ time but they haven’t worked in their tacho units either.

Karen Crispe, MD at Tachodisc, says drivers working in Europe could face additional problems if the message has not filtered down to foreign enforcement authorities about this UK issue.

She also says customer feedback reveals that there is no consistency with the error messages being reported, and that she has heard of one card automatically ejecting itself from a unit while someone was driving on the Continent.

Derek Broomfield, MD at tacho supplier Novadata, says: “Our phones have been going non-stop. Some people have been quite panicky.

“And what about those on restricted licences? They have no CPC holder or transport manager to turn to. The DVLA must be pulling its hair out.” ● For up-to-date information from the DVLA about the problem go to: http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/
