• WB Cunliffe (Coachbuilders) has supplied the first newly-designed Lancastrian Freo v,relfare coach, based on the Leyland Daf Roadrunner coach chassis, to Wigan Metropolitan Borough Social Services Department.
The vehicle, which cost over 244,000, has a side-mounted Montreal Clearway hydraulic wheelchair lift and a central folding power door which acts as a hinged step, or first fixed step when not in use. All but five of the seats are removable, and all are fitted into Unwin semi-recessed tracking. The coach is used primarily for holiday excursions and has colour co-ordinated fibrebonded carpet and Nonoslip flooring.
The Manchester-based coachbuilder expects to produce up to four more of the Freo coaches.
