CM has had few editors in its 81-year history and all have been strong advocates of the road transport industry. lain was a transport man long before he came to CM but just as he has the industry in his blood, he absorbed and then became the soul of CM.

lain came to journalism with that Scots facility for the English language coupled with his hatred of pretension and cant. He was a strong editor and a powerful ally for the industry we serve. His outstanding contribution was recognised last year when he was made an MBE.
