Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Recent and substantial bad debts have driven Suffolk haulier James Downie and its associate company G. E. Thorpe (Haulage) into receiver's hands.

Various companies, including small hauliers and large concerns, have expressed interest in acquiring the business, chartered accountant Grant Thornton says. "The receivers are optimistic that a sale as a going concern of part, if not all, of the operations may be achieved."

The companies operate 20 vehicles from premises at Mendlesham and Felixstowe with 31 staff: Twenty-two staff members have now been made redundant.

At the moment trading is continuing on a limited basis. The haulage recession is blamed for the firms' collapse.

G. E. Thorpe (Haulage) is not associated with G. E. Thorpe Warehousing, which works from adjoining premises at Mendlesham.
