Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

operated screw-type ram would be preferable to the conventional type for elevating a tipper body? What is your view, and can you tell me whether such a mechanism is produced?

AAs far as is known, power-operated

screw-type rams are not produced in any country, but interest in the possibility of developing such a gear has been shown by a number of operators and bodybuilders. The power unit would probably be a hydrostatic motor supplied by an engine-driven hydraulic pump, It should be possible to provide a tipping rate equal to that provided by a tubular hydraulic ram and the system might well offer improved safety and reduced maintenance. Driving the pump direct from the engine would in some cases simplify installation problems that can arise with p.t.od riven pumps.

It is perhaps a moot question whether a screw lifting gear would withstand greater stresses without damage than a tubular type and whether the system would be lighter. Support for the contention that the system would be both lighter and more resistant to damage has been received from a variety of sources.
