Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Richard Beeching, Cargo

Train project came this week from the National Association of British Manufacturers, which represents_ several thousand small and medium-sized firms in this country.

But in a statement to the Minister of Transport they make two reservations— that the charges to be levied for freight on the Liner Trains must be reasonable and that the proposal that freight should be collected by railway van for transport to a relatively few depots does not add to road congestion. The collections, the statement adds, must be efficient, expeditious and regular.

They are less happy about Dr. Beeching's obvious desire to get rid of small, unremunerative traffics. The Association suggests that some machinery should be established to ensure that prohibitive rates are not fixed for unwelcome freight which cannot practically be carried by road.
