Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Southern Scotland.

AT the Southern Scotland Com missioners' sitting at Falkirk on May 5th, W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd„ will be a prominent applicant, that company seeking chiefly stage-carriage licences. Representations on applications of other operators will be forthcoming from several municipal authorities, including Glasgow Corporation and Roxburgh and Selkirk County Councils.

Northern.

GAZETTE 34 of the Northern Com missioners records the fact that MacShane's Motors, Ltd., has won its appeal against the decision of the Commissioners in refusing a backing for an express-service licence in respect of the Liverpool-Keswick route. The company has, however, lost its appeal in respect of a backing for a licence for a group of excursions and tours from Liverpool.

Yorkshire.

WHEN the Yorkshire Commissioners

sit at Leeds on May 3rd there will be a fair amount of opposition to applitions for licences, the names of several well-known concerns, including those of the railway companies, appearing in the objections or representations column of Gazette 53.

It is announced that Mr. B. Leason, of Dunsville, .has lost his appeal in respect of a licence for a stage-carriage service between Armthorpe and Doncaster, whilst Messrs. Clarke Bros., Ripon, have also failed in their appeal in connection with a licence for a Ripon-Dishforth service.

East Midland.

APPLICATIONS by smaller operators

will be the chief consideration at the East Midland Commissioners' sitting at Leicester on May. 3rd, and in several eases the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., will oppose the granting .of licences, along with railway companies and other concerns.

The sitting to be held at Aylesbury on May 5th should be quiet, for there is little objection listed.

Eastern.

SEVERAL-of:the larger operators will

apply for licences at the Eastern Commissioners' sitting at Cambridge from May 3rd to 5th. There will be a certain amount of opposition, the objectors including the London General Country Services, Ltd., the Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., and Watford Corporation. Several long-distance services from London will be under consideration.

South Wales.

THE sitting of the South Wales Com missioners at Newport on April 27th will be noted for the extremely small amount of opposition to applications for licences or backings, the only objectors listed in Gazette 39 being Cardiff Corporation and Glamorgan Constabulary. Backings for excursions and tours will be the chief consideration.

The applicants will include Red and White Services' Ltd., the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., Ribble Motor Services, Ltd-, and the East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd.

Southern.

TELE sitting of the Southern Com missioners, to be held at Winchester on May 2nd and following days, should proceed smoothly for, according to Gazette 55, there will be no objection to applications -for licences. Keith and Boyle (London), Ltd., Black and White Motorways, Ltd., and the Thames Valley Traction Co., Ltd., are included amongst the applicants. South-Eastern.

THE sitting of the South Eastern Commissioners, which is at present being held in London and which continues until Friday next, is notable for the amount of opposition to the granting of licences, and is an extremely interesting event. Practically every application is opposed and the names of the Southern Railway Co. and Southdown Motor Services, Ltd., appear often.

Well-known applicants include United Service Transport Co., Ltd., Blue Belle Motors, Ltd., Keith and Boyle (London), Ltd., and A. Timpson and Sons, Ltd. The Royal Arsenal Co-operative Society, Ltd., will occupy a good deal

of the Commissioners' time with its application for express-carriage licences.

• Metropolitan.

THERE will he little objection to the granting of licences at the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioners' sittiug, to be held in London on May 4th, when G.B. Motor Tours, Ltd., Southdown Motor Services, Ltd., and Varsity Express Motors, Ltd., will be included amongst those seeking licences. The objectors will be the Southern and L.N.B. Railway Companies, the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., London General Country Services, Ltd., and Green Line Coaches, Ltd.
