Just about every new truck sold will be sold again down the line until it gives up the ghost and is consigned to used truck heaven.To keep a tighter grip on the flow of vehicles going into the used marketplace, manufacturers have been busy over the past four years putting together sound, functional, customerfriendly used truck schemes. So what can you get and from whom?

Dot: Endurance

Daf has main regional dealers with satellite networks offering the Endurance used trucks programme. All available vehicles will be less than six years old and will have three months' driveline warranty and at least nine months' MOT. Each vehicle gets a 78-point check when it comes in and will go out to work with cover from DafAid.The website has a European-wide Endurance Truck Locator.

Foden: Used Trucks

Paccar has kicked off its used trucks scheme on its website and through UK contracts manager Mark Brown. Second-hand trucks sold through retail will get a three or six-month driveline Gold warranty through a holding company, while trade purchases will be bought as seen.

Iveco: Ivaco Used Plus Trucks

The European-wide Used Plus progranune covers the whole of the Iveco range from the Daily van to its heavyweight tractor. There are three Used Truck Centres (UTCs) in Middlewich, Birmingham and Thurrock that handle any enquiries. Iveco puts its vehicles through an FTA pre-sale inspection and offers a 12-month dtiveline warranty, nationwide 24-hour aftersales support and a roadside assistance package, all available through a variety of different deals.

MAN ERF: MAN Diesel

MAN Diesel was launched at the 2002 CV Show and includes both MAN and ERF products. It offers approved low mileage vehicles that are under four years of age, and a manufacturer's specification service with full vehicle inspection. Mercedes-Benz: Approved Used Vehicles

Each truck gets a 160-point check, followed by a minimum six months' mechanical breakdown insurance, which can be extended. The policy includes driveline, clutch, gearbox, driven axle(s). electrics, brakes, fuel system and air suspension Additionally, a customer suffering a breakdown gets a contribution towards recovery to the nearest dealer to fix the problem and towards a replacement vehicle.

Renault Trucks: Choice Used Trucks

Choice is a well-established used vehicle scheme and covers Renault Trucks' full range from 2.8 to 44 touters. Operators buying a Choice vehicle get a sixmonth comprehensive mechanical warranty, which covers the driveline and top-ups.There is a wide-ranging dealer network, extensive finance deals and out of hours servicing.

Scania: Approved Used Trucks

Scania Used Trucks has 14 direct dealers based across the UK and Northern Ireland with many of the centres having satellite dealerships.The company says it expects to turn over 1.700 used vehicles this year. Various financial and warranty packages are available and each vehicle gets a three-month driveline warranty as standard.

Volvo: Selected Used Truck

This European-wide programme offers operators 'hand-picked' trucks with three or six-month driveline warranty as standard. Uptime Assurance and Volvo Action Service for recovery across the continent can be added for a small fee.The recovery scheme also has a penalty system if you are not back on the road within a guaranteed time..
