The used truck market is one area of the industry enjoying a boom.,latest figures show annual sales could increase by as much as a third. The figures, published by the SMMT, forecast that used truck sales will increase 12% this year. However, if the six-monthly figures are anything to judge by, tha t increa.se could be closer to 30%.SM1'VIT believes there is potential sales growth in all rigid sectors (two to four axles), as well as a possible 14% growth in sales of tractors.

Last year 73,583 used trucks changed hands,up 4,680 units on 2001. In the first six months of 2003 a total of 41,356 trucks were sold, up nearly 10,000 against the same period in 2002.The end of last year saw a purple patch in the used market though, with a total of 41,720 units sold in 2002.

In the new market, current figures for truck registrations show only an 8.4% increase (C'M 18 September).
