Take a stroll with us through the little sideroads of haulage, the diversions and detours, the quirky, the quixotic and the downright strange.

Ah, corporate PR executives, those silver-tongued protectors of company reputations and masters of the phrase "no comment". So we were a tad surprised last week when we asked one if a titbit of industry tittle-tattle was true to be greeted with a slightly less silver-tongued-than-usual: "Even if I knew. if I told you they'd put my low"— in a vice and then wallop them with a spade." To be honest, I think we'd have preferred a simple "no comment"...

Speaking of corporate wordsmiths, another big hello to the fine chaps at Frigoscandia Distribution, sorry, Celsius First, who've sent us another missive reminding us yet again (and we clearly need it) that the company has changed its name. Paul Pegg, managing director at Frigoscan...er... Celsius First, explains the name swap: "It is connected with our 'First Class Service' initiative, which underpins everything we do for customers." Which is all well and good, but with one operator reporting delays of up to seven hours at one of its RDCs, one wonders if they might think about providing a 'First Class Service' for everyone soon.

We're also baffled by this little gem from TDG. Contained with a press release about investment in its cornriercitti cleaning sites, it reads: "The new drive-through cleaning bays offer a faster service and greater variety of cleaning possibilities such as CIP cleaning, hot air drying on all bays, five spinner heads per bay and multi in-line additive dosing." You suspect it means something to someone, but frankly it just left us with a headache.

Lastly, thanks to King Highway Products for informing us that they've just soid a whole bunch of access platforms to EPL access, although to be honest we wouldn't have used the press release if it wasn't for the fantastic background to the image. They clearly know our weak spot...
