winning class El in the Lorry Driver of the Year competition national final, Mr. P. L. Goff, of Phipps Northampton Brewery Co. Ltd., plunged to seventh place out of 20 competitors in the lorry driver competition organized by his firm's parent company, Watney Mann Ltd. The competition was held at the Watney Mann brewery, Mortlake, London, last Sunday, and formed part of a Road Safety display. More than 1,200 people, including Mr. A. Royle. M.P. for Richmond, and air. A. a H. Lawrance, J.P., the Mayor of Barnes, watched the competition, which was the first staged by W'atney Mann in which all members of the group took part. Mr. P. J. Balls, of Bullard and Sons Ltd. brewery at Norwich, won the competition with the lowest number of penalty points, 21. He lost two in the kerb parking test, 10 in the reversing test, and nine when questioned on the Highway Code. Runner-up was J. Hadfield, Ushers Brewery Ltd., with 23 penalties; and third, R. Brooks, Wilson's Brewery Ltd., 25.
