Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A, NEWCOMER to Earls Court, Highway LA Trailers are showing three semi-trailers.' all of which appear to embody a lot of thinking in their design. The most interesting Unit shown is one of 20-ton capacity, fitted with single-leaf springs: it has Super-Single tyres, light alloy landing gear and side raves, and centrifuse brake drums. A novel idea On the hubcaps of the unit is that they are provided with windows for ease of checking oil level.

Two other trailers shown by the company are a I6-ton coil carrier and a I2-ton general cargo carrier. The coil carrier has a frame of high-tensile rolled steel, with cross-members built up in the well to carry the side raves. Adequate load transfer is provided by these cross-members in the design, and they are

fitted at 2 ft. centres. Covering the welt, when this is not required, are four hardwood hatches of 1-25 in. nominal thickness, fitted with alloy cross-members. The 5-in.-diameter axles are mounted on the well-known Highway No-hop suspension and carry 10-stud hubs.

All the exhibits on the Highway stand show outstanding features: the use of alloy crossmembers, the use of treated timber and specially designed rave members—to name but a few.

A very_ sound main rail is manufactured by this company. Consisting of two " tee " sections, and a plate cut to the required dimensions, the three pieces are machine welded together to form a flanged beam. By using this method Highway is not held to any set shape and can follow its own design requirement to the letter.
