Morris Commercial Cars, Ltd., Adderley Park, Birmingham, 8.

COMBINING the vehicles exhibited by the two Nuffield companies—Morris Commercial Cars and Morris Motors—gives virtually a duplication as far as models go of the display by Austin, the third commercial-vehicle producer in the British Motor Corporation. Morris Commercial is concerned with those vehicles which are not based on passenger cars—this is the province of Morris Motors— and the eight exhibits on this stand range from the 10-12 cwt. J4 van to the new FJK 360 18-ton tractive unit.

Main interest is in the FJ range, which is described elsewhere in this issue, and three examples are to be seen on the stand. As well as the 18-ton tractive unit, which has a Taskers fifth-wheel coupling, there is an FJK 160, 8-ton, 14-ft. 7-In.-wheelbase flat platform and an FJK 140, 7-ton, 9-ft. 3-in.-wheelbase chassis with Edbro tipping gear and body. As with the similar chassis exhibited by Austin, points of interest are the well-designed tilt cab, which gives a high degree of luxury for the driver, and the braking system, which has many safety features. There are separate hydraulic circuits to the front and rear axles, the tandem master cylinder being actuated by a dual unit, the two portions of which are fed by independent air-pressure circuits Continued on page 181 rom a dual reservoir. 'the system provides that if one of he air circuits fails, a proportion of braking is still applied t all four wheels of the vehicle.

A recently introduced vehicle to be seen is the WFK 60, ;-ton, normal-control model, which is shown as a platform Orry and has a 4-litre petrol engine. Bridging the gap ietween the WF and FJ exhibits, there. is an FGK 100, 5on platform lorry which has a 5.1 litre diesel engine and he B.M.C. cab with angled entry doors. Three other chides are exhibited on the Morris Commercial stand, hese being an LDO M30 275-cm-ft. van with a 12-litre iesel, a J2 MI6 fl-seater Minibus with a 1,622-c.c. petrol ngine, and finally a J04 M16 10-12-cwt. van with sliding oors and fitted with the 1,489-c.c. B.M.C. diesel engine.
