Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Dennis Bros. Ltd., Woodbridge Works, Guildford, Surrey.

HERE is another stand on which examples of an

important new range of models can be seen. These are the Maxim vehicles, which use exclusively the Cummins VALE lightweight V8 178 b.hp. (net) engine. There are two four-wheel tractive units designed for 26-ton gross train weights on the stand, and one of them is mounted on a plinth with the cab raised a little from the chassis to show the engine location and so on. Various components are sectioned to show their construction. Although having a similar frontal appearance to the Pax V cab the unit on the Maxim is a new design. It is of all-plastics construction with double skinning all round, the space being filled by heatand noise-insulating material. Features of the design are power-assisted steering as standard, and a braking system which should meet adequately the requirements in the new Construction and Use Regulations. Standard equipment includes mans items which are normally extras. These are a fog light windscreen washers, sun visors, an electric clock, heatini and demisting equipment, and a cigarette lighter. Electrical :quipment includes a 60-amp. ac. gene.ator. Reduced maintenance has been ;onsidered fully in the design and autonatic lubrication is a standard fitting; the mly grease point on the chassis is in the tandbrake cable.

The range was described in the Septemier 11 issue of The Contotercial Motor, and third example can be seen at Earls Court n the Demonstration Park. This is the ix-wheeler, double-drive, rigid chassis with 15-ft. 9-in, wheelbase, designed for :2 tons gross. It is loaded with test veights and the substantial construction if its chassis frame can be seen.

As well as the Maxim chassis there are four other Eiennis !xhibits, each being Pax V models. The most recently ntroduced is the 12-ton-capacity six-wheeler Low-Loader, vhich was introduced at the Glasgow Show last year. ,oading height on this model is only 3 ft. 3 in. from the round and the engine fitted is the Perkins 6.354. This ngine is also fitted in the other three Pax V models shown y'Dennis, which are all four-wheelers: 17-ft. 5-in. wheelase Low-Loader with a pantechnicon body, and a 2-ft. 1-in. wheelbase Low-Loader chassis both designed )r a gross weight of 10 tons 4 cwt., and the third a 1-ft. 9-in.-wheelbase model with a special half-van type ady in aluminium alloy with drop-sides and a canvas tilt t the rear end. Gross weight rating of the last chassis 12 tons 18 cwt. Braking is by a full air system, compared ith vacuum-assisted hydraulic on the Low-Loaders.
