BiCi news from Cominer at the Show is the concern's entry into the field of maximum load, two-axle vehicles with the :v1axiload 14and 16-ton gross models. The new design was described fully in the September 11 issue of The Commercial Motor, and the only difference between the two weight ratings is in the suspension and tyre equipment fitted. The Show vehicle is the 16-ton model.

The engine used in the Maxiload is the Rootes 30 215, which is a higher-capacity version of the existing Rootes two-stroke, three-cylinder diesel, and produces 132 b.h.p. net at 2,400 r.p.nri. Other features of the design are a full, airbraking system with Westinghouse components, including dual-diaphragm chambers at the rear axle to provide service and emergency brake functions; the extra diaphragm is pressurized on application of the handbrake. Powerassisted steering is standard, and an improved version of the cab used by Cornmer on other models and called the Luxury-Plus is used. This has a number of standard items including a 4-65-kW heater, padded facia, windscreen washers, ashtrays and padded sun visors.

In addition to the Maxiload, Commer is showing a representative selection of goods and passenger vehicles ranging from the 7-cwt. Cob to the 8-ton four-wheeler. There are, in addition to the Cob, two vans—a 1-ton model fitted with a Perkins 4.99 diesel engine and a Walk-Thru 2-tonner with the Perkins 4.203 engine. There is also the 12-kater bus version of the 1-ton model.

The Commer Superpoise is shown in a left-hand-drive version as a 6-tanner with a wheelbase of 14 ft. 1 in., and has a factory-built drop-side body of 15 ft. 3 in. length. This chassis has the Perkins 6.354 engine and another model with this unit is a 7-ton tipper; but this has the higher-rated version-120 b.h.p. against 108 b.h.p. Wheelbase is 9 ft. 7 in. and although shown as a chassis the vehicle is suitable for a 6-cu.-yd. body. Completing the exhibits is a 15-ft. 7-in.wheelbase, 8-ton chassis/cab with the 114 b.h.p. (net) version of the Rootes diesel engine and a five-speed synchromesh gearbox and air-assisted hydraulic brakes,
