As distinct from manufacturers' handbooks, which have become increasingly comprehensive and useful in recent years, there is unfortunately a relative dirth of textbooks on preventive maintenance apart from textbooks dealing with engineering generally. An exception is the "A to Z System of Maintenance and Records. for Commercial Road Transport ", published by E. J. Thurston, Hereford, which, although now out of print, may be obtained through local libraries. As its name implies it deals specifically with preventive maintenance and the keeping of records.

The Charnwood Publishing Co. Ltd.. of Coalville, Leicester, specializes in the printing of forms for the road transport industry, including vehicle maintenance records. Included in this series are detailed reports

of increasing comprehensiveness according to the I

interval of service, one such report being made out

I for each vehicle. Further forms allow for recording I the cost of the various jobs performed, together with a tyre and fuel consumption record.
