AREFERENCE to the very big potential of petrol injection for applications to engines of commercial vehicles was made by Mr. D. G. Thorpe, sales manager of Tecalemit (Development) Ltd., Plymouth, at a luncheon last week. This followed a demonstration by Alexander Engineering Ltd., of Haddenham, Bucks, of Ford and Vauxhall cars equipped with the Tecalemit-Jackson system which was fully described in the June 26 issue of The Commercial Motor. World-wide interest had been shown in the system.
Mr. H. F. Jackson, designer of the system, told The Commercial Motor the fuel consumption tests will be performed within the next few weeks to substantiate the claim that in a typical case petrol injection can provide a fuel saving of 25 per cent provided that the power output of the unit is not uprated. Mr. Jackson reaffirmed that the system was suitable for power units up to 350 b.h.p. and expressed his confidence that a high-power petrol engine operating on a 9-to-I compression ratio would run satisfactorily on commercial fuel if the unit were fitted with the system.
