STOCKTON'S MUNICIPAL-TRANSPORT INQUIRY

A PPOINTED by Stockton-on-Tees PACorporation to inquire into the working of the municipal transport department, a special committee has suggested that expert assistasce should be obtained, so that the inquiry might be brought to a satisfactory conclusion. The corporation has decided to engage Mr. Arthur Collins to prepare and submit a full report on the transport undertaking. Mr. Collins will be at liberty to call in the assistance of technical experts on any engineering matters involved.

TECHNICIANS' PART IN WORLD CO-OPE RATION TAKING " Preliminaries to Post-war Planning " as his subject, Mr. j. A. Dunnage, general secretary of the Industrial 'Transport Association, spoke to members of the Manchester branch at the opening of its 1942-3 session last Saturday. In the course of a lengthy. address, Mr. Dunnage forecast the growth of world co-operation resulting from international agreement between technicians of various classes. Manchester members were joined on this occasion by representatives of the Liverpool, Newcastle and Preston branches. Other important speaiers are promised for forthcoming meetings of the branch.

ADVICE TO THOSE DEALING WITH CONCRETE AUSEFUL booklet entitled "Concrete Simply Explained" (a paper by Mr. V. S. Wigmore, F.S.E.) has been published at Is. 8d. (including postage) by the Society of Engineers, 56, Church Street, Wcybridge, Surrey. This is primarily for the training of concrete operatives, as well as for students of structural and civil engineering. The ingredients are dealt with separately, and routine tests are described.

THE head office of the Car Collection Co., Ltd., has been moved from Luton to London, although the company is maintaining its premises at 43, Windmill Road, Luton, as a depot. The head office is now at 35, Baker Street, London, W.1, and there are other depots at Birmingham, Coventry, and Edinburgh.
