Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS we have already pointed out in these pages, the use of roller shutters instead of doors for box vans used in certain classes of operation has manifold advantages. Briefly, they may be summarized as being specially-suitable for use where side-loading is required; for instance, when vehicles have to take in their goods from bays situated in narrow passages, where there is not room for a swing side-door to be fully opened.

Ordinary doors on a van usually swing open when the vehicle starts to move, should the driver or attendant forget to lock them. This, of course, makes damage possible to the body of the van and to other machines in its B44 immediate vicinity if the doors come mien at an awkward moment. The use of roller shutters naturally avoids this danger.

Realizing that the advantages of these fittings are making a strong appeal to many users, H. Parker and Co., 341, Battersea Park Road, London, S.W.11, have produced an efficient type of roller shutter, which has now been fitted to vehicles owned by J. Lyons and Co., Ltd., G. Kemp, Ltd., Carr and Co., Ltd., and Meredith and Drew, Ltd., amongst other large concerns. It will be noted that the last three companies mentioned above are biscuit manufacturers, roller shutters for vans being very popular in that trade.

The shutters produced by H. Parker and Co. are constructed 0 selected deal laths, ;which are connected by means of continuous steel hinges. The fittings are operated by spring rollers, enabling them to be ridged or lowered easily. Incidentally, when coiled, the fitting makes a roll about 8 ins, in diameter, but where only one shutter is required and extra headroom is needed the connected laths can be made to slide fiat, under the roof. The steel channels, is which the shutters run, can be fixed between or behind the pillars, as required, and these parts are supplied complete with the necessary fixing brackets, etc., ready for assembly into the body framework.
