• Wadham Stringer has fitted its new Wessex midisized bus body to the Dodge 50-Series chassis for the first time. This coach specificiation version was displayed at the Renault Trucks Birmingham parts centre at the time of the NEC show.

Wadham Stringer has resited the gearbox on the Dodge to improve passenger access. The Wessex has the same type of modular mutliple ring steeL7i-i-frame structure as its fullsize single deck Vanguard range.

The Wessex is also available on the long-wheelbase 300' series Dodge chassis.

• Accountants and business advisers Peat Marwick have been appointed as Preston Borough Transport auditors. The new work will be handled by Peat Marwick's Preston office where it will be under the control of PM partner Peter Brown.

Peat Marwick overcame strong competition for the work from six other major accounting firms.

• Subsidies for bus services in Highland Region are being cut by 16% as a result of deregulation. According to the Department of Transport, Highland had been planning to spend £1.24 million this year, but by putting some routes out to tender the figure has been cut to £1.06 million.

• Three Scottish Bus Group companies — Clydeside, Central and Kelvin — have launched new fares schemes to passengers throughout the region. The bus companies are to launch a new family of bargain price season tickets in time for Deregulation day on October 26.
