• Gateway Foodrnarkets has opted to dispose of its vehicle fleet in the southwest of England, and has signed up Heronfreight to provide all transport services to its 60 stores in the area.
Under the contract signed between Gateway and Heronfreight. Heronfreight has purchased Gateway's south-western fleet of 21 Leyland and DM' tractor units and 51 box trailer units. A further six DAF 2500 tractor units will be added to the fleet by Heronfreight.
The contract marks He ronfreight's entry into the supermarket distribution business, although it has existing distribution contracts with Lyons Tetley, General Foods and British -Akan Consumer Goods.
Around 29 Heronfreight staff will be affected.
