• Mercedes-Benz (UK) — Daimler-Benz's British commercial vehicle and car subsidiary — last year enjoyed a 156% increase in its pre-tax profits which rose to 210.4 million.
MB (UK)'s net profits climbed 144% to £6.59 million, despite a big jump in the amount of tax the company had to pay, which rose from £1 million to £4.3 million in 1985_

Last year's profit figure was below the .£9.1 million returned in 1981, although the company has been hit by fluctuations in exchange rates and also by fierce competition in the UK commercial vehicle market.
In 1985 MB (UK) sold 12,454 vans and trucks — up 19.8% on its 1984 sales of 10,393.
Last year, MB (UK) also transferred its commercial vehicle dealer stocking plan, previously operated in-house, to Lloyds Bowmaker, which helped give CV unit sales and turnover a major boost.
