Bristol Street Motors Group's Birmingham-based commercial vehicle contract hire and leasing division — Trucklease — is spending 220,000 on computer equipment and moving to new premises as part of a total investment package worth 250,000.
Trucklease is relocating its headquarters from Bristol Street in Birmingham to BSMG's 2.6-hectare Longacre site, which is the company's main commercial vehicle base.
Although Trucklease was only set up by BSM International nine months ago, the company already has over 100 vehicles, from panel vans to 38-tonne tractive units, out on contract hire throughout the UK. It has also leased some 50 vehicles and is offering operators the choice of maintenance-only contracts.
According to Trucklease's contracts director, Kim Hamilton, the company is looking to increase its contract hire fleet to 500 vehicles within the next three years.
Trucklease's new premises at the Longacre site will include a computerised system for vehicle maintenance, based on software designed by the company. The Longacre site also houses Bristol Street Motors' own van and truck rental fleet.
Trucklease expects a growing number of operators to opt for contract hire. Kim Hamilton says that while "There is little sign of a change in the number of trucks and vans to be sold in Britain in the next few years, we are about to see a radical change in the way they are acquired."
