• Lawrence David of Peterborough has become the second body builder to receive a quality assurance certificate from the British Standards Institution, under the body quality scheme established by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Lawrence Marshall, managing director of Lawrence David, was presented with the certificate by Trevor Nash, engineering group manager of the BSI quality monitoring department, at the Motor Show last week.
Besco Bodies of Northampton was the first body builder to receive a quality assurance certificate under the SMMT scheme, and two other companies, Wadham Stringer of Waterlooville and Bedwas Bodies, have passed the audit although not yet received their certificates.
The scheme includes after sales service, engineering build records, rust inhibition and painting, and the BSI inspectors make up to four spot checks a year.
Lawrence David already has a system for checking its welds to a BSI standard.
