problems last winter should have a word in the ear of whoever buys the diesel. Workshop attended a presentation showing how a new fuel just on the market, Mobil Diesel Plus, keeps flowing at temperatures down to —15°C.
Mobile refers to it as "a ready cure for the common cold" — by modifying the structure of the wax particles it prevents wax crystals from blocking a fuel filter.
Mobile says that other advantages are that by keeping fuel systems clean, it prevents coking up and helps tinprove fuel consumption, and obviously absence of black smoke is an environmental benefit, and one which operators with bases sited near houses should also think about from the point of vieW of public acceptance of the lorry.
Commercial Motor once drew attention to the fact that some lorry drivers take hair dryers with them in severe weather which they can run from a battery or dashboard cigarette lighter for use if they wax up. Perhaps their wives and girlfriends can now have them back.
