A FLAT-frame all-aluminium skeletal trailer — called the Featherweight — has been introduced by Welford Truck Bodies of Stoke-on-Trent.
Designed to run on super single tyres only, the trailer has very wide base springs. This, says Welforci, reduces roll angle by more than 50 per cent over that experienced with normal spring spacing.
The trailer has an unladen weight of 2450kg (2.41 tons) and a neck depth of 228mm (9in).
Rubery Owen Rockwell 10.2-tonne (10-ton) capacity axles are used, with monoleaf suspension.
After evaluating a prototype, brewers John Courage has ordered six more of the trailers.
