NEW regulations to standardise British workplace safety signs and colours in line with the resi of the European Communities will come into force on January 1.
The regulations (The Safety Signs Regulations 1980) ars based on a system which uses four colours and shapes in conjunction with picture symbols The aim is to convey simpls safety messages instantly with out using words.
All premises to which thE Health and Safety at Work Ac. 1974 apply will be covered loN the regulations. The effect of ths new regulations will be that an sign put up after January 1 1981, must comply; and by Jan uary 1, 1986, all signs mus conform.
