BUSMEN are a special case and should be allowed a further substantial pay rise less than 12 months since their last increase. This wa: the substance of a case presented to the employer: of Britain's 70,000 municipa busmen last week by Mi Larry Smith, nationa officer of the Transport an General Workers' Union The men's current pay deal scheduled to expire ot January 1 next year.
Mr Smith told ail employers that the claim wa within the spirit of thi contract as it applied to special case. Publi, employees' wages had fallet behind and higher pay wa necessary if staff shortage were to be overcome. h said.
A similar claim i expected soon on behalf o the 90,000 company bus men whose present dea expires on March 1.
