• After what the chairman of the N.W. Commissioners, Mr. C. R. Hodgson, described as "35 years of bickering" the two day-excursion operators who run 90 per cent. of the tours from Rochdale have decided to live side by side in "amicable disagreement".
On Tuesday Yelloway Motor Services Ltd., (jointly with The Creames (Lancashire) Ltd.) applied to take over the licence formerly operated by R. Holt Ltd., of Rochdale, involving 290 excursions. For the applicant Mr. F. D. Walker said that agreement had been reached with Ellen Smith (Tours) Ltd., the other major operator, and shortly applications would be made by both parties to take over half the vehicle allowance authorized on the Holt licence, which was four vehicles per day. Thus the licence at present being applied for would subsequently die.
Similar applications would follow in respect of Fletcher Tours and 0. Smiths Ltd., which Yelloway was also acquiring.
