AN accompanying illustration shows an interesting and practical application of the Jackall hydraulic jack, made and marketed by S. Smith and Sons (Motor Accessories), Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. A set of four has been fitted to a works truck (a product of the Abtus Permanent Way Equipment Co., 231. Temple Chambers, Strand, London, W.C.2) for elevation of the load platform. The lever which operates the hydraulic pump can be seen on the right of the driver's seat.

The truck shown is one of two, in use at Hull Dockyard. Their normal operation includes carrying goods from ships to warehouses, the Customs, etc., and we understand that each may carry as many as 300 loads per day. Much time is saved by the jacking equipment,
