Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE activities of John I. Thorny1 croft and Co., Ltd., Smith Square, London, SAVA, have been concentrated, during the past months, on reducing the weights of its range of goods vehicles, in a manner consistent with strength and durability. Its policy, however, remains unaltered, in rating them conservatively, even in the face of the keen. competition that now exists.

This end has been accomplished largely by taking advantage of the latest light alloys now available, and where practicable replacing unnecessarily heavy castings by light stampings and pressings. The efforts, in this direction, of tyre and wheel makers are also reflected in modern Thornycrofts.

At the same time, much work has been done ir improving the power units, with the 'result that, generally speaking, a 20 per cent, increase of output has been obtained.

Last week we briefly described a new Thornycroft range of Trusty maximumload four-wheelers. available with engines having four or six cylinders, and for petrol or oil fuel. These are suitable for 7-7i-ton loads. On September 13 last we published a report .of the Dandy 3-tonner, a 30-m.p.h. lorry recently added to the range.

The design of this model is based on the now well-known Handy. The machine has, however, an engine giving an output of 50 b.h.p., whilst a contributory factor to its good appearance is a new design of radiator. It is available, with normal control, in two wheelbase lengths and, in the case of the longer model, the chassis weight permits a body scaling 131 cwt. to be carried.
