Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

chassis with a wheelbase of 14 ft. 6 ins, is included in the 1936 range of T.S, Motors, Ltd., Victoria

Works, Maidstone. As exclusively announced in last week's issue, this new model is to be known as type HA39C4.

The T.S.M. petrol engine is noted for its economy of operation, and this type of power unit, having four cylinders of 4/-in. bore and 5i-in. stroke (29 h.p. Treasury rating), is incorporated in the new model. Despite the comparatively low rating, the engine develops 75 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m.

Features of the power unit are helical-gear drive for the camshaft, monobloc cylinders, forced-feed lubrication, large exhaust manifold, and the use of Floatex mountings. The magneto and water pump are operated by a cross-drive, whilst gears are employed for driving the fan. Fuel is fed to the Solex downdraught carburetter by a mechanical pump.

Power is transmitted through a four-speed gearbox, a single-plate dry clutch and Hardy-Spicer needle-bearing shafts, to the underslung-worm type of back axle incorporating fully floating shafts. Suspension is by means of semi-elliptic springs, those at the front measuring 42 ins, and those at the rear 60 ins. With triple-servo operation, the foot brake takes effect on all four wheels, whilst the hand brake actuates shoes in the rear-wheel drums.

Tie steering gear is of the wellknown Marks pattern. The equipment includes a C.A.V. M.R.-type lighting set with an illuminated switch panel, including a speedometer.

Another recent introduction to the T.S.M. range is the New Express passenger chassis, which, when tested by The Commercial Motor, was shown to have a good turn of speed, excellent

brakes, and to operate with eoonomy. This model has a similar engine to that used in the new 7-tonner.

So far as the braking system is concerned, the pedal operates, through Dewandre Lockheed vacuum servo hydraulic equipment, brakes on all four wheels, whilst the hand lever applies shoes in separate drums on the rear wheels. The New Express chassis is available at the price of .060 and is suitable for a 32-34-seater and 36-37seater bodywork.

The third T.S.M. model of recent introduction is the Merlin 3-4-tonner, incorporating a Hercules six-cylindered petrol engine of 3a-in. bore and 44-in. stroke, giving a volume of 228 cubic ins. Rated at 27.34 h.p., the power unit deve)ops 63 b.h.p. at 2,400 r.p.rn, Salient features of the Merlin chassis, which weighs only 1 ton 15 cwt., are the Warner gearbox, Timken axles and Borg and Beck clutch.
