ANEW single-deck bus chassis and a 4-ton goods chassis are to be featured by the Gilford Motor Co., Ltd., North Circular Road, Park Royal, London, N.W.10, in its commercialvehicle range for the forthcoming season. The passenger chassis is or straightforward layout and full forward control is provided, giving a body length of 23 ft. 3 ins.
The power unit is a six-cylindered petrol engine of 5.79 litres capacity, in which the exhaust valves are sidemounted, the inlet valves being of the overhead type operated by push rod.
A single-plate clutch and a fourspeed gearbox are provided, and Layrub universal joints are used in the two-piece open propeller shaft. Of the underslung worm-driven type, the rear axle has fully floating shafts, the standard ratio being 6.25 to 1.
The Dewandre three-servo brake system is employed for the foot brake, the hand brake operating, through a corn mon cross-shaft, the same shoes on the rear wheels. Having a wheelbase of 17 ft. 6 ins., the overall length of the chassis is 26 ft. 10 ins., and a turning circle of 63 ft. is obtained, This model will also be offered with a Gardner 41..W engine and five-speed gearbox.
The new 4-ton chassis, to be known as the PF116, is designed to fall within the 50-cwt. taxation class, and is planned on similar lines to the previous 4-ton model. The well-known Perkins Leopard oil engine provides the motive power, this unit being rated at 24.8 h.p., and having a maximum output of 58 b.h.p. at 2,100 r.p.m. The transmission follows the lines of the passenger chassis, described above, with the exception oT the rear axle, which is of the overhead worm-driven type. Forward control is provided and the standard model has a wheelbase of 11 ft. 6 ins. This model will also be offered with the Gardner 4LK engine and will still come within the 50-cwt. class.
