The western sub-area of the A.R.O. has announced a meeting for 7.45 p.m. on Monday. October 28, at Hammersmith Town Hall, London, W.8, when " S.T.R.," the cost expert of The Commercial Motor, will deliver a lecture to the members on costs and charges. This will deal with the costing problems, not only of the haulier, but of the C-licence holder. Members are invited to bring their friends. Ample car-parking space is available next to the Town Hall. He will also lecture at Manchester on December 2, but the place and time are not yet arranged.

A.R.O. and R.I.A. Combine on Election Issue.

It is understood that meetings have been held, at which leading members of Associated Road Operators and the Road Improvements Association were present, with a view to the two associations agreeing upon a co-ordinated policy for the forthcoming General Election. The results of the meetings were successful, and it is believed that the two Associations will work together in this matter.

At the A.R.O. Conference, to be held at Olympia. on November 11, it was intended to deal with the Association's election programme. In view, however, of the new date of the election, these matters have been arranged earlier than was at first proposed and the programme for he Conference is being revised.

The Parliamentary and Joint Relations Committee met on Tuesday to approve the election programme.

Increased Import Duty on Track-laying Tractors?

The Import Duties Advisory Committee gives notice of applications for increases in the import duties on tracklaying agricultural tractors and parts for them. Any representations which interested parties may desire to make in regard to them should be sent to the Secretary, Import Duties Advisory Committee, Caxton House (West Block), Westminster, London, S.W.1, by November 9.
