by Amanda Bradbury • Hauliers and dairies this week launched a joint attack on the Milk Marketing Board's "anticompetitive" haulage plans after its rebirth as Milk Marque.

The abolition of the MMB has been ordered by the Government to allow free competition in the milk industry.

The Dairy Trade Federation sent a formal submission to the Ministry of Agriculture earlier this week to ask for the MMB's haulage proposals to be thrown out.

The milk trade body says operators who are new to milk work and do not wish to bid for Milk Marque depots are being unfairly discriminated against. The DTF says:

L Milk Marque should not be allowed to transfer to itself all existing haulage contracts.

1=1 That the tender process for 23 Milk Marque depots now being offered to hauliers should allow the incoming operator to haul for other organisations.

Buyers of milk should be allowed to buy at the farm and arrange haulage themselves— the MMB proposes to sell on a delivered basis only.

The move comes just four days after the MMB told operators they have just over a month to submit tenders for the 23 MMB depots.
