• The two men shot dead in Stockport on Monday this week were vehicle examiners employed by the Vehicle Inspectorate based at the Bredbury Goods Vehicle Testing Station in Greater Manchester.

The shooting of Alan Singleton, 56, of Skelmersdale and Simon Bruno, 28, of Salford, took place at car garage Chestergate Auto, a VI-authorised MoT station.

A gunman entered the building and shot them at close range.

In addition to their routine LGV spot checks as vehicle examiners, the two men also policed MoT testing stations. They had been investigating "an alleged irregularity concern ing the issue of a test certificate", say police. A complaint had been made to police by a member of the public in relation to an MoT test certificate.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation is offering a £25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killings. No arrests had been made by Tuesday afternoon.

Police are looking for an orange panel van and a red Sierra saloon car which was seen speeding down King Street West at the time of the shooting Anyone with information please ring 061-477 7168.
