Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Iwas most interested in your comments on the Silent Majority in a recent issue of Commercial Motor. I have found in my short time at the RHA, that one gets general moans and complaints but seldom any real evidence to support them which can be presented to the Department of Transport or local authorities to make a case.

However there has been one notable exception. A few months ago, a questionnaire was issued with Roadway posing questions about motorway service area problems. The response rate was 5% (which I understand is good for such a survey), and the information provided was sent to the DOT as additional evidence in the campaign to gain access to MSAs for truck repair vehicles. I am sure that the facts produced, which indicated that 41% of drivers had at some time or other limped into an MSA to get assistance, greatly helped the DOT to make the decision to allow access.

So, I fully support your comments. The RHA will fight for hauliers but we need the ammunition and only the haulier can provide that. R Freeman Controller, infrastructure Road Haulage Association,
