Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

s every reader knows, Commercial Motor is A0always right. it was with some concern, therefore, that the Hawk detected a note of sarcasm in a missive from Euro Trailer Rental querying a table in a recent feature on EC lorry taxation based on a truck running "68,000 miles a day".

"While we sympathise with UK hauliers whose tax burden is greater than those in other EC member states," wrote these doubting Thomases, "why do they bother with tax anyway?

"To our knowledge, no law enforcement agency could see, let alone catch, their drivers. The daily mileage in nine hours driving would require an average speed in excess of Mach 10 (7555.55mph) assuming 6mpg, a fuel tank capacity of 11,333 gallons and a driver with a very large Yorkie bar. The current taxation level seems wholly justified."

And then, of course, they have to include an advertisement: "To rent OUR trailers, Mach 3 must not be exceeded. PS. Who supplies his tyres?"

I think I'm going to cry.
