TRANSPORT Minister Mrs. Barbara Castle answered a barrage of questions in the Commons on Wednesday. Her replies on some of the subjects:— Fuel tax relief: She intends "very shortly" to put before the Commons a Bill enabling her to pay grants to bus operators for their stag services in relief of the 10 per cent surcharg imposed on motor fuel in July.
Special charge: The possibility of making special charge for abnormally wide or hear loads will be included in the Ministry of Trans port's review of old goods transport policy.
Bus ownership: It was too early to say wha changes in the ownership of buses might is desirable. On nationalization of privately owne4 bus services, she pointed out that her polio included the rationalization of present service to secure more effective coverage of passenge transport services throughout the country But, she noted, the manner of doing so must is adapted to local needs.
