Hoisting, derricking and slewing are performed by hydraulically actuated rams controlled from the back of the cab.

can be lifted at a radius of 80 ft. and 4 cwt. at a radius of 25 ft. 6 in. The crane is 20 ft. long and 7 ft. 1 in. wide and when mounted on a normal type of lorry its overall height in the lowered position is 9 ft. 6 in.

Apart from equipping the cab with an astradome, operator seat and controls, chassis modifications comprise the fitting of chassis brackets to locate the base block and the use of spring locks at the rear.

On Thames Chassis A Tunny crane mounted on a Ford Thames 5-ton chassis is used by Morton's (Coventry), Ltd., Binley Road, Coventry for the transfer of cars from road vehicles to rail trucks, the handling of cased tractor parts, and the loading of complete tractors. In a 40-hour week 424 1-ton cars were loaded.

Another Coventry operator, Sheppards (Coal and Metal), Ltd., Lewis Road, Coventry, employs a Tunny crane mounted on a Bedford normal-control 5-ton chassis to load scrap metal throughout the Coventry area.

The crane may also be used in conjunction with a four-wheeled trailer to dispense with the need for a separate road vehicle to transport loads from a number of sites to a central depot. If the equipment is mounted on a long-wheelbase vehicle, platform space can be provided for direct loading.
