PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO LONDON PASSENGER TRANSPORT BILL

M.H.C.S.A. Memorandum for Submission to Parliament AT the tine of closing for press, the Motor Hirers and Coach Association, Ltd., was putting finishing touches to a memorandum proposing amendments to the London Passenger Transport Bill. The memorandum is to be subinitted to Members of Parliament.

Some of these points were referred to by Mr. Raymond Birch at the Association's annual general meeting (reported on another page in this issue). He said that the Association proposed the Bill should be amended so that there would be no compulsory acquisition of any undertaking, that there should be a central licensing authority to control road services operated by the board and by independent concerns, and that independent services which were damaged by the board should be compensated in full.

The 11.11.0.S.A. considers that all services in the proposed London Passenger Transport Area should be placed under a board of Commissioners, as in other Traffic Areas, consisting of the present Metropolitan Commissioner and two representatives of local authorities.

It is claimed that, under the Association's amendments, all services operated by the board and by indepen'dent concerns would be properly coordinated, the service of the independent undertakings would be protected and the rights of the public safeguarded.
