Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Freight Agrncy Offer.

The Editor, THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR.

[2,288] Sir,—With reference to your article in the issue of The Commercial Motor for November 11th, I feel sure I am voicing the general opinion of carriers if I suggest that freight agencies should_not receive support from the haulier.

In my opinion, there ought to be no such thing as

" return lead." A return load, say, for me, from Birmingham is some other man's outward load and, in accepting a cut rate' I MI injuring another man's work—a thing I should object to if the Birmingham man cut the rates from here.

For this reason I never accept cut-rate traffic', a-nd if all engaged in road transport adopted the same attitude, our business would be far more healthy.

But the chief trouble is, and always will be, the small man owning and driving one vehicle, who has no organization to keep up and who thinks that all the cash he takes beyond immediate expenditure in petrol and mate's wages is profit.—Yours faithfully, Chelmsford. C. E. TREADWELL.

The Editor, THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR,

[2,289] Sir,---We are inclined to support the Amalgamated Transport Agency, chiefly because we are daily wanting return loads. All the similar agencies we have supported have been found more or less useless, possibly for promising more than they could fulfil On application for membership, a very courteous reply was received (accompanied by the return of our cheque) saying that " as the organization was not quite complete, the manager did not feel justified in accepting payment until such time as they could render adequate service." We like the tone, and hope the concern will be well supported and enabled to become successful and useful. Yours faithfully, p.p. H. G-. DUNN AND SONS, LTD., E. DUNN, Managing Director. Bromley, Kent.

[We are glad to learn of this experience with the agency, as it helps to remove any doubt caused by the invitation, in the agency's circular to subscribe for membership of the concern.—En., 0.11f.]
