The tramwaya manager of York has secured a valuable return of the comparative costs of running omnibuses in York and several other towns. It is interesting inasmuch as, for the first time, Comparison , is made between petrol, electrio, and trackless omnibuses.
Petrol Buses.
Four towns are quoted, as follows :— Number of buses : Birmingham 52, Wolverhampton 8, Sheffield 24, and York 1.
Mileage : Birmingham 1,052,904, Wolverhampton 126,076, Sheffield 524,750, and York 7,508.
'Revenue peabus-mile : Birmmgham 22.72, Wolverhampton 18.29, Sheffield 20.46, and York 11.59.
Power per bus-mile, petrol : Birmingham 5.73, Wolverhampton 4.40, Sheffield 5.55, and York 4.63.
Traffic expenses per mile : Birmingham 7.38, Wolverhampton 4:95, Sheffield 7.09, and York 5.06.
General 'expenses per mile: Birmingham .90, Wolverhampton 1.98, Sheffield .53, and York 3.24.
