• The number of foreign lorries inspected at the roadside is decreasing, according to roads minister Steven Norris.
Norris told the House of Commons (16 May) that the number of foreign I..GVs inspected fell from 6,175 in 1992-93 to 5,575 in 1994.95. Immediate prohibitions were down from 413 to 310. Delayed prohibitions are not issued to foreign vehicles.
Earlier this month, Thames Valley Police reported they had prohibited 25 of 35 foreign vehicles stopped during a half day spot check at junction 14 of the MI (CM 4-10 May). Further checks are planned.
