by Martyn Ziegler • A gang handling stolen trucks has been jailed for up to six years, after the ring was smashed by Humberside police.
The professional operation involved cutting up vehicles and selling the parts until 20 officers from Hull and Scunthorpe made an early morning raid.
Hull Crown Court heard that the racket made close to £500,000.
Christopher Price, 34, owner of Hatfield Commercials of Whitley Bridge. Goole. was jailed for six years after being found guilty of conspiracy to handle stolen goods. Ile had denied the offence.
Peter Tattersall, 38, of Tattersall's Haulage, Beaver's Bridge Farm, Goole, was cleared of conspiracy but jailed for nine months for handling stolen goods.
Thomas Wilson, 28, of Beaver's Bridge Farm was sentenced to five years after being found guilty of conspiracy. He had pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods but denied conspiracy. Another gang member admitted handling stolen goods and was jailed for 18 months, but Hatfield employee Arthur Shipley was cleared of conspiracy.
Baz Bhatia, prosecuting, says: "Heavy goods vehicle parts, together with plant and tools, were of substantial value—approaching £500,000." The men were involved in dismantling stolen trucks at Beaver's Bridge Farm, where Tattersall's Haulage was based, and then moving the parts to West Carr Farm, Epworth, from where Hatfield Commercials would sell them.
Detective Inspector Ian Welch, of Scunthorpe CID. says: "We are obviously delighted with this result and hope this will send a message to anybody considering embarking on such a venture."
