Katina Theodossiou, the astrologer, who has cast a horoscope for Lionheart, the 64ft yacht that Britain is entering in next year's America's Cup race, believes it has an excellent chance. If it wins, it will be Britain's first success in 127 years.
Norman Quick, chairman of the H. and J. Quick Group, who commissioned Katina, says it was the custom from early Egyptian times until the Middle Ages to have a horoscope for every ship launched. The practice is still followed in the East to determine the most favourable time for launching.
Lionheart's date was apparently a notably happy choice. Katina recalls that the launch dates of the ill-fated Titanic and Lusitania coincided with particularly unfavourable star charts.
Norman Quick is the driving force in the Ventura, which, as I reported last August, is being sponsored by the 1500 British Industry Club. He stresses that despite the hopeful omens, Lionheart will not succeed unless the club gets "every ounce of available cash support from British industry."
