AUTOMATIC fare collection machines are to be removed from London Transport's fleet of one-man-operated double-deck buses and a few single-deckers.
The machines, which control an automatic turnstile, are to be taken out of service and in future the driver will collect all fares.
Few passengers have used the machines in the past and by removing them LT will release engineering staff to concentrate on general maintenance.
The machines, fitted on LT's DMS-type double-deckers, some T and M types and SMS single-deckers, will be removed during the Spring Bank Holiday.
Fare machines and turnstiles will be retained on flat-fare services.
