• United Carriers are to open a new replacement depot at Braintree, Essex, in the autumn with a capacity five times that of the existing 10-vehicle depot.
The number of direct nighttrunking routes will be increased to cover the entire country and the depot will be responsible for collection and delivery in Essex and Greater London.
The £300,000 depot, scheduled for completion in September, is the first of a new design of secondgeneration UCL depots with all service facilities under one roof. The main building of 33,700 sq ft will incorporate 41 loading doors and an Acrow mechanical handling system.
