SEDDON ATKINSON has unveiled its new Strato rigid range, targeted at the waste and construction sectors. Taking pride of place on the firm's show stand is the first example off the production line.

The R5 cab covers the 18 and 26tonne weight categories powered by the Tector engine, while the wider and larger R6 version will be available for 26 and 32-tonne chassis cabs powered by the Cursor 8 engine.

The R5 18 24ONSD 18-tonne 4x2 rigid is powered by the 5.9litre 240hp engine with the more powerful 275hp as an option. The gearbox is the Eaton nine-speed overdrive unit, with options including the Allison automatic transmission. The show vehicle has a 4m wheelbase, and after the show will be fitted with a gritter body ready for June's CIWM Show in Torbay.

The range will be built in Madrid and up to 100 units are expected to be shipped annually to the UK. National sales manager Kevin Crowther says its prime aim is to recoup market share lost by the previous aging cab.
