Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LDV previews its new van range — and CM can exclusively reveal its planned new engine. Andy Salter wades through the dry ice.

LDV HAS GIVEN visitors to the CV Show a sneak preview of its new van range. And Commercial Motor can exclusively reveal that LDV has ditched its current engine suppliers Ford and Peugeot in favour of a new engine builder.

Set for launch this autumn, the stylish new light commercial was hidden in a cloud of smoke behind perspex on the stand as the Birmingham-based company made a bid to whet the appetite of potential van buyers. Both high and low-roof versions of the van were on display.

Although LDV would not release any further details, its chief executive Allen Amey confirmed the imminent engine change. Other senior managers at the firm told CM that the new engine would be a 16-valve common-rail unit, and we understand that a brand new engine from Italian firm VM will power the new van.

Speaking to the press at Birmingham. Amey said the tooling was currently being installed at LDV's Drews Lane plant, all the contracts had now been signed with the tier-one component suppliers and the company was all set to offer the product first in the UK later this year and in the rest of Europe in 2005.
